SunWise Contest Winner

Recently Lauren won first place in the Senior Division for the SunWise Poster Contest.  She was presented with the best prize of all an "IPAD".  This contest was at Huntsman Cancer Institute.  Lauren put a lot of time and creativity into this project, I always enjoy her artwork.  Lauren really has been enjoying her Ipad, and her sister and brother enjoy it when she shares it too.

A Miracle Baby

Ten years ago my Mom and Dad were blessed with a precious little girl. They were so amazed that a beautiful sweet little girl came to join their family. She grew up to be such a leader to her younger sister and brother. She grew up so fast because she had so much responsiblity as the oldest child. Her child-like faith healed Isaac's brain from severe bleeding before he was born and helped him to recover from his surgeries well after he was born. She has been a role model and friend to her sister Brianna. She also has been so obedient and humble, always trying to "Choose The Right" and follow Jesus' example. Her parents are so proud of her academic acheivements and always at the head of the class. She is so humble she would never dare write something like this (her mother did it while she was at school). That special girl is Lauren. Her parents love her and never show it quite enough.

Short Instead of Long

Yesterday I did something I hadn't done in a long time. Can you guess what I did? I cut my hair ! At first I didn't want to get it cut but in the end I'm glad I cut it. I think short hair looks better than long hair on me. I donated ten inches to Locks of Love and short hair keeps me cool in the summer.

Summer is Finally Here

Summer has finally arrived and so has the heat. Lately in Salt Lake City it has been in the ninety degree range. WHEW!! Summer (to me) is the best time to be outside ,but I hate getting sunburned so I won't be outside too long or I will put on sunscreen. I'm glad summer is finally here.

Project Title "How Does An Aurora Borealis Work?"

Hypothesis: Could auroras be caused from cold weather?

Answer: No

How an Aurora Borealis works is when highly charged electrons comes from the solar wind, and it interacts with the air surrounding the Earth, when it reaches the Earth they follow the magnetic force coming from the Earth's core and flow through the magnetosphere. The color of the Aurora depends on which atom is affected and the level where it came together. All of the elements shift around causing what some might say the "Auroras are Dancing". The Auroras occur along the "auroral ovals" which are centered on the magnetic poles (not the geographic poles).
Green - oxygen, up to 150 miles in altitude
Red - oxygen, above 150 miles in altitude
Blue - nitrogen, up to 60 miles in altitude
Purple/Violet - nitrogen, above 60 miles in altitude

Where can Auroras be seen?
Auroras can be seen in many places such as the North Pole, South Pole, Alaska, and different areas in the U.S, but one of the coolest places they can be found is in SPACE!

What is an Aurora Borealis?
Aurora borealises also known as auroras are strong electricity in air with gases. When the two mixes it makes an aurora borealis. Other than that they are beautiful light shows in the night sky.

Conclusion: I found out that an aurora borealis is really caused by the sun’s solar winds interacting with the earth’s magnetic areas.
